Nitrogen for laser cutting

In laser cutting, nitrogen is used as an assist gas to support the cutting process. By displacing oxygen around the cutting edge, nitrogen prevents oxidation and produces a clean, oxide free cut. This not only improves cutting quality but also increases cutting speed, resulting in higher productivity.

The required nitrogen purity depends on the application. For components where the cut edge will undergo further processing, a lower purity level is often sufficient, reducing operating costs. When the cut edge must remain visible and meet high aesthetic standards, a higher purity is required.

Nitrogen for welding and metalworking

Nitrogen also plays an important role in welding, where it is used as a shielding gas to prevent oxidation of the weld pool and the heat affected zone.
